Interfaith
Prayers
There is a real beauty about the interfaith movement. When people of different faiths get together they can create a wonderful sense of goodwill and harmony. It’s as if all the sorrow, violence and bitterness that exists between different religions and races can be overcome by a few good people of faith sitting together, eating together and praying together.
Iftar Dinner Prayer
There is no moment
More hallowed or precious than this…
For this is the time
When we celebrate
Difference
This is the time when
We embark on an adventure
When we encounter new lives, traditions
Sacred ways of being
That lead to beautiful and
Unexpected dimensions
Within ourselves
This world is full of places
Where the exquisite light of difference shines
It illuminates temples, gardens, palaces
Schools and seats of learning
It fills such places with candle light
Sunshine and memories
Moments where loving spirits
Sense each other
Respect each other
And share space and time
With loving reverence
In perfect peace
Those with an open heart
Might say “We are the same
And we are also different.”
It is this sameness and difference
That create harmony
To be seen and heard
Making us all special
This is the moment
When we turn to our Islamic brothers and sisters
Our Christian and Jewish friends
Our Hindu, Buddhist, Pagan, Bahai and Atheist
Colleagues and families and say
You belong here, we belong here
In this City, this country, this world
This world is ours to share
In perfect peace
Tonight, we celebrate
We laugh, eat together and talk
There is no moment
More hallowed or precious than this…
Our shared and most sacred journey
As we travel this journey of life
In perfect peace.
Amen
